What Causes Diesel Engine Overload Operation?

What Causes Diesel Engine Overload Operation?

 1. Incorrect Engine Selection

EN:
Choosing a diesel engine with insufficient power for the application is one of the main causes of overload operation.

For example, if a generator, water pump, or industrial machine requires more power than the engine can provide, the engine will operate under continuous heavy load.

Common situations:

  •  Engine power is too small
  •  Equipment requirements increase after installation
  •  Incorrect power matching

Solution:
Select a diesel engine according to the actual power requirements of the equipment. Leave an appropriate power margin to ensure stable operation.

 2. Continuous Heavy Load Operation

EN:
Even a properly sized diesel engine may experience overload problems if it operates continuously at maximum capacity without sufficient rest.

Long-term high-load operation can cause:

  •  Higher combustion temperature
  •  Increased oil temperature
  •  Faster component wear

Solution:
Avoid running the engine at maximum load for extended periods. Regular inspection and maintenance are necessary.

 3. Poor Maintenance Condition

EN:
A poorly maintained diesel engine may lose power and require more effort to produce the same output, increasing the risk of overload.

Common maintenance problems:

  •  Dirty air filter
  •  Clogged fuel filter
  •  Poor-quality engine oil
  •  Cooling system problems

Solution:
Follow a regular maintenance schedule and replace filters and lubricants on time.
